2025 MOE-NIE-SEAB-SCCL Sharing Forum

On 22 July 2025, the Singapore Centre for Chinese Language (SCCL) jointly organised the annual MOE-NIE-SEAB-SCCL Sharing Forum with the Asian Languages and Cultures Academic Group at the National Institute of Education (NIE), Nanyang Technological University. Successfully held at NIE, this conference brought together curriculum experts, academics, researchers and master teachers from the Ministry of Education (MOE), NIE, the Singapore Examinations and Assessment Board (SEAB) and SCCL.

The forum centred on the core theme of "Strengthening Mother Tongue Functions and Rebuilding the Language Ecosystem". Its main goal was to directly address the practical challenges currently faced by Mother Tongue Language teaching, deeply analyse the root causes, and collaboratively seek effective pathways to reinforce Mother Tongue functions, thereby fostering the healthy development of the local language ecosystem.

The forum content was rich and insightful, revolving around the changes and possibilities for the Mother Tongue across four crucial contexts: the education system, the family environment, the workplace, and the social language landscape. Participants engaged in a systematic analysis of the issues, thoroughly discussed multi-dimensional approaches to restoring Mother Tongue functions, and offered valuable theoretical perspectives and strategic recommendations for language policy formulation, instructional practice improvement, and social environment construction.

As a co-organiser, SCCL deeply feels that this meeting not only provided an important platform for exchange but also offered positive inspiration for the future trajectory of Chinese language education. We look forward to continuing to work hand-in-hand with all parties to contribute to the prosperity and development of local Mother Tongue education.
