Mr Chou Yung-Shan Conducted Sharing Sessions at SCCL

On 6 August 2025, the Singapore Centre for Chinese Language (SCCL) and Zhong Hua Cultural Society (Singapore) (ZHCSS) invited Mr Chou Yung-Shan from Taiwan to give a talk titled "Lighting the Lamp Within: The Essential Role of Educators in the Age of AI".

Mr Chou holds a master's degree from the Institute of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, National Yang Ming University and has over 30 years of experience teaching traditional culture. He has been dedicated to teaching classics like The Analects, Di Zi Gui, and Xiao Jing for many years, striving to integrate traditional wisdom into modern life to cultivate personal character and enhance quality of life.

The first face-to-face session was held from 10am to 12pm at SCCL Lecture Theatre. In addition to SCCL colleagues and volunteers from ZHCSS, the principal of Qihua Primary School and representatives from the Federation of Chinese School Alumni Associations, Tung Lok Group, the Society of Modern Management Singapore, the Society of Chinese Education Singapore were also present. A total of over 80 participants attended the first session. The second session, targeted primarily at school teachers, was from 3pm to 5 pm in a hybrid format. Over 70 participants attended it.

In his talk, Mr Chou highlighted that educators in the AI era should enrich their humanistic values, help students distinguish between knowledge and wisdom, teach them to use knowledge to improve their lives and use wisdom to pursue a happy life. He pointed out that in the face of the challenges posed by AI, teachers need to build collaborative and symbiotic relationships through love, understanding, and tolerance. By drawing on the wisdom of the classics, they can light the lamp within the heart, illuminating the life journey for themselves and the next generation.
