SCCL Staff Invited as Speakers

      

        SCCL Lecturer Dr Fan Jinghua was invited as a keynote speaker for "The Third International Conference on the Humanistic Foundation and Cross-cultural Understanding of Sino-American Relations" held online from 15 to 16 August 2020. Dr Fan was also a keynote speaker for "North 4 COL Online STP Sharing on Chinese Teaching" held online on 2 Nov 2020. Master Teacher Mdm Zheng Yingjiang was invited as a guest speaker for the "Thumbs Up Little Junior" Children's Rhymes Creation and Performance Final Award Ceremony online on 12 Sep 2020.

 

1. Dr Fan Jinghua

I. The Third International Conference on the Humanistic Foundation and Cross-Cultural Understanding of Sino-American Relations

        Dr Fan Jinghua was invited as a keynote speaker for "The Third International Conference on the Humanistic Foundation and Cross-Cultural Understanding of Sino-American Relations" held online from15 to16 August 2020. In his talk entitled "Form and Aura of the Poetic in American-Chinese Poetry Translation", he talked about how to reproduce or highlight the form and aura of the poetic in translation through specific examples.

 

II. North 4 COL Online STP Sharing on Chinese Teaching

        Dr Fan Jinghua was invited as a keynote speaker for the "North 4 COL Online STP Sharing on Chinese Teaching" organised by Mee Toh School and Nan Chiau Primary School on 2 Nov 2020. Dr Fan shared his views on the topic "Assessment for Learning and Teaching Reading Comprehension: How to Enhance Higher-Level Reading Comprehension Abilities through Repeated Assessment". The lecture introduces the key concepts in assessment for learning, and focuses on classroom questions as a method to enhance higher-level comprehension. Through examples from primary textbooks in Singapore, Dr Fan emphasizes that feedback can be used as an effective strategy to induce deeper comprehension of reading.

 

2. Mdm Zheng Yingjiang

        Master Teacher Mdm Zheng Yingjiang was invited as a guest speaker for the online "Thumbs Up Little Junior" Children's Rhymes Creation and Performance Final Award Ceremony, organised by the Singapore Press Holdings on 12 Sep 2020. In her talk on "Sharing the Joy of Nursery Rhymes at Home and Kindergarten", Mdm Zheng analysed the musicality and playfulness of children's rhymes for the participants of more than 100 preschool Chinese teachers and parents. She shared on how to create children's favourite rhymes incorporating children's daily experience, and gave the participants guidance on how to share and recite nursery rhymes with children through voice interaction, movement interaction and emotional interaction. Teachers and parents participated actively in the online interactive session with full joy.
