Authors: Dr Gong Cheng, Tay Boon Pei
Publisher: SCCL
Publication Date: December, 2025
ISBN: 978-981-94-4698-8
The book is a practical guide to writing Chinese compositions specially written for Singapore students. It introduces 43 basic writing techniques grouped into five categories: (i) content organisation, (ii) narration, (iii) characterisation and description, (iv) rhetorical devices, and (v) expressive techniques. Revision exercises are provided at the end of the book to help students consolidate their learning. Every writing technique is furnished with examples, analyses and exercises. Some of the examples are taken from the latest Chinese language textbooks compiled by the Curriculum Planning and Development Division, Ministry of Education, Singapore. Therefore, students can learn the writing skills from texts they are familiar with. This revised edition also adds a chapter titled "A Note to Teachers", explaining the reasons for adopting a purpose-oriented, assessment-based approach to teaching writing strategies. The book is suitable not only for secondary teachers and students, but also for teachers and students from upper primary schools and junior colleges.

Authors: Zhou Hongxia, Wang Juan, Tham Kok Yung, Jasline Lim En Qi
Publisher: SCCL
Publication Date: September, 2025
ISBN: 978-981-94-4404-5
Developed by the Singapore Centre for Chinese Language, the "Teacher's Guide and Activity Design for Extracurricular Reading of Picture Storybooks for Primary Students - Using the 'Unboxing the Treasured Memories' Graded Picture Book Series as Examples" teaching toolkit is specially designed to support Chinese language teachers in guiding primary school students (Primary 1-6) through extracurricular reading using picture storybooks.
This teaching toolkit is developed based on the distinctive characteristics of picture storybooks and conforms to the "Chinese Language Syllabus Primary" (2015 and 2024 editions) and the "Six Levels of Reading Proficiency Framework". The meticulously crafted guiding questions and a variety of interactive reading activities, both digital and hands-on, would enhance students' reading experiences. These activities are tailored to each grade's reading level and cognitive development, supporting progressive growth in student's reading abilities.
This comprehensive package consists of four key teaching resources: lesson plans and activity guides, online games, animated PowerPoint slides as well as e-books.
Feedbacks from both teachers and students during the trial teaching show that the resources can not only spark students' interest in reading but also boost active participation. Chinese language teachers can utilise this teaching toolkit to effectively cultivate students' personalised reading skills and gradually nurture them into confident, autonomous readers.
