Jointly organised by the Committee to Promote Chinese Language Learning (CPCLL) and the Singapore Centre of Chinese Language (SCCL), the "National Creative Story Writing Competition for Secondary Students" Award Presentation Ceremony cum Launching of the Chinese Graded Readers was held on 10 October 2020. The event was held online due to the Covid-19 precautionary measures.

        We were honoured to have CPCLL Chairperson Ms Sun Xueling, Minister of State in the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Social and Family Development, as our Guest-of-Honour to launch the "Creative Lion" Illustrated Graded Book Series.

        Mr Chow Teck Seng was invited as the representative of judges to comment on the entries of the competition. Goh Jun Yu, an awardee from River Valley High School, shared the creative ideas for his story. Mdm Tan Geok Hoon, a Master Teacher, subsequently demonstrated how the creative stories in the Series can be adapted and used as a pedagogical tool in the Chinese classroom.

        Besides the awardees, the judges, principals, teachers and parents and the illustrators were also invited. More than 130 participants joined the online event.

        The "National Creative Story Writing Competition for Secondary Students" was held at Nanyang Girls' High School on 31 August 2019. Approximately 400 students took part. A total of 36 distinguished and outstanding entries were selected and published as "Creative Lion" Illustrated Graded Book Series (Grade 1-4), with brilliant illustrations by local illustrators. The complete Series comprises 8 books in total, with 2 books for every grade from grade 1 to grade 4. Forty-two sets of the Series will be delivered to each and every secondary schools.
