The Book Launch cum Guided Reading Session of "New Stars Island" Graded Picture Book Series (Grade 4 to 6) was held at SCCL on 14 April 2018. The Guest-of-Honour was Mdm Heng Boey Hong (Director, Mother Tongue Languages Branch, Curriculum Planning and Development Division, MOE). Other distinguished guests included Dr Foo Suan Fong (Executive Director, SCCL), Dr Tan Chee Lay (Executive Director, Research and Development, SCCL), Dr. Jocelyn Lim Bee Kim (Deputy Director and Senior Specialist, Mother Tongue Languages Branch, Curriculum Planning and Development Division, MOE) and Ms Winnie Tan (Principal, Woodlands Primary School).

        During the occasion, Tay Jia Xuan and Fu Xuan, two students from among the awardees, guided the audience to read their award-winning stories and shared their inspiration of creation. Principal Master Teacher Mdm Lim Kwee Hua introduced the reading project she conducted in a dozen of primary schools, and exemplified how each school have developed reading activities and toolkits based on the book series.
Woodlands Primary School teachers, Ms Lee Sor Luan and Mdm Zhao Xiaofei, shared with the audience the reading programme carried out in their school. The programme aimed to motivate students' interest in reading and cultivate a good reading habit among students through plenty of reading activities. Mdm Lee Sia Ang, a parent representative from Woodland Primary School, shared her experience on parent-child reading. She said that she would read the books with her child in a relaxing atmosphere at weekends. Of an appropriate level, the book series was appealing to her child and built his confidence in reading Chinese books, observed Mdm Lee.

        The "New Stars Island" Graded Picture Book Series (Grade 1-3) was successfully launched at the Award Presentation Ceremony cum Launching of Chinese Graded Readers on 26 August 2017 at the National Library Building. With the launch of the remaining 18 titles on this occasion, the series is finally complete.
