SCCL Executive Director Dr. Chin Chee Kuan and Professor Zhang Jianming of East China Normal University signing the MOU

Since its foundation in 2008, the Singapore Centre for Chinese Language has fostered a good relationship with a number of overseas and local academic institutions as well as research scholars. From August to December in 2013, it has received three groups of visitors and has reached a collaboration agreement with the East China Normal University (ECNU), one of the three groups.

Signing of Memorandum of Understanding Between East China Normal University and Singapore Centre for Chinese Language

A delegation of educators from the East China Normal University (ECNU) led by Professor Zhang Jianmin, Executive Deputy Director, Institute of Global Chinese Language Teacher Education, ECNU, visited SCCL on October 12 for the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the two organizations. The signing was witnessed by Mr. Shao Yipeng, Second Secretary (Education), Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Singapore and Mr. Fong Yeow Wah, Assistant Director, Curriculum Planning & Development Division, Ministry of Education, Republic of Singapore.
Subsequent to the signing, the two sides further exchanged ideas on concrete ways to enhance collaboration in the areas of research, teacher training and development, joint publication as well as exchange of academic staff.

Internationally-Renowned Chinese Linguists Visit SCCL

A group of internationally-renowned Chinese linguists gathered at Singapore Centre for Chinese Language on October 26 for an educational exchange. The group consisted of Professor Xing Fuyi, Professor Li Yingzhe, Professor Wang Guosheng, Professor Tao Hongyin, and Professor Xu Jie. They were accompanied by Professor Chew Cheng Hai and Associate Professor Lee Cher Leng from the National University of Singapore and Associate Professor Phua Chiew Pheng of the Nanyang Technological University. The SCCL welcoming party was led by Executive Director Dr. Chin Chee Kuen and Deputy Executive Director Dr. Tan Chee Lay. The visitors marveled at the significant progress and development of the Centre in the past five years and were immensely impressed by its research projects. They also offered some invaluable advice on SCCL future development.

Visits Singapore Centre of Chinese Language

The Teachers' Professional Development Experimental Team from Taipei paid a visit to SCCL on November 5. The team was welcomed by SCCL Executive Director Dr. Chin Chee Kuen and Deputy Executive Director Dr Tan Chee Lay. Principal Master Teacher Dr. Ng Tai Cheen and Master Teacher Mr. Lim Chin Nam were also present. The two parties exchanged views on the educational issues in Singapore and Taipei.
