SCCL Relocated to Ministry of Education's office in Balestier
In December 2025, the Singapore Centre for Chinese Language (SCCL) officially bid farewell to Ghim Moh Road and move to the Ministry of Education (MOE)'s headquarters office in Balestier.
Since its establishment in 2008, SCCL has been conducting training and research work at the former Ghim Moh Primary School campus. Over 17 years, this space has witnessed the development of SCCL and the professional growth of local Chinese language teachers. SCCL has created a comfortable and pleasant work and learning environment rich in Chinese culture ambiance over the years, featuring swaying bamboo shadows, flowing streams, and iconic Nanyang-style architecture, for its staff and the teachers who came here for professional development. The ten training rooms, lecture hall, auditorium and conference room have also consistently supported a wide range of professional courses.
After relocating to Balestier, SCCL will continue to conduct courses using two training rooms and will share lecture halls and auditoriums with other departments of MOE. With the adjustment of space, some courses will be conducted online or moved to designated school venues. Although the mode of operation has changed, the training objectives and professional standards of SCCL remain unchanged.
The original office space of SCCL will be returned to the government. According to MOE's overall plan, SCCL will be relocated to the headquarters in Buona Vista in 2029, integrating with other units for office work.
We will carry with us the experiences and sentiment accumulated at Ghim Moh Road as we continue to conduct teaching and research work at the new location. We also look forward to forging ahead together with teachers in different spaces.
