Mr Ong Ye Kung, Minister for Education visited SCCL
Minister for Education Ong Ye Kung made his first visit to Singapore Centre for Chinese Language (SCCL) on 5 October 2018. He had a dialogue with SCCL management during which he was briefed on the general development of the Centre's in-service training courses for Chinese language teachers, research projects, as well as teaching resources development and pre-school education training courses.
Prize Giving Ceremonies of the National Chinese Mobile App Development Competition and the Preschool Teaching Aids Competition
The "2018 National Chinese Mobile App Development by Students for Students Competition" organised by Singapore Centre for Chinese Language has ended with a resounding success. The prize giving ceremony was held on 13 October 2018 at SCCL. We were honoured to have Ms Melissa Gay, Senior Deputy Programme Director, Lee Kuan Yew Fund for Bilingualism Programme Office, graced the ceremony and presented awards to the winning teams together with Dr Foo Suan Fong, Executive Director, SCCL.
Heads of Department Focus Group Discussion 2018
Singapore Centre for Chinese Language (SCCL) organised two sessions of the Heads of Department (HOD) Focus Group Discussion (FGD). The session for Secondary/Junior College/Centralised Institute HODs was held on 31 October, and the session for Primary HODs on 15 November. The theme for this year was "How to carry out effective teaching of Chinese Language". The main objective of the sessions was to convey information on SCCL's teacher training courses. SCCL also took this opportunity to get a better understanding of teachers' training needs so as to come up with more suitable programmes for the enhancement of teachers' professional development.
SCCL Staff Invited as Keynote Speaker
On 1-2 Dec 2018, Dr Chin Chee Kuen (Academic Consultant / Distinguished Principal Lecturer) attended the "Knowledge, Images, Curriculum: Studies on Textbooks in China Republic Times" International Forum organised by Zhejiang University.
Activities in SCCL
SCCL organised Singapore National Day Celebration and Learning Journey on 7 August 2018, Mid-Autumn Festival Celebration on 20 September 2018 and visited Lee Ah Mooi Old Aged Home on 22 November 2018.
New Staff
Dr Wu Yung Sen holds a Doctor of Education from National Chi Nan University, Taiwan. He lectured a wide range of early childhood courses at private universities in Taiwan and was a lecturer at SEED Institute in Singapore. He had experience running kindergartens in Taiwan and mainland China.
