This course consists of three parts. Part 1 offers a brief history of Chinese and Western porcelains. Part 2, which is the main part of the course, illustrates the meanings of the motifs and symbols commonly appeared on Chinese porcelains. Part 3 demonstrates some of the masterpieces of Chinese and Western porcelains respectively and tells the stories about them, offering students an opportunity to appreciate the beauty of porcelains from different cultures.
Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:
Have a knowledge of the basic history of Chinese and Western porcelains,
Understand the meanings of some common motifs and symbols on Chinese porcelains,
Appreciate some porcelain masterpieces from Chinese and Western cultural backgrounds and learn about the stories behind them.

Porcelain masterpieces from Chinese and Western cultural backgrounds (with photo illustrations) and the stories about them.
