Objectives / Outcome of PD Activity
At the end of the course, participants will be able to:
1. Apply technology-enhanced approaches to Primary Chinese reading comprehension instruction to help students develop the ability to read, think and self-check.
2. Identify key design elements for implementing Assessment as Learning, and guide students to develop metacognitive abilities through questioning, responding, feedback, revision and reflection.
3. Use technology tools to refine reading questions, learning scaffolds, feedback and reflection activities, so as to support students in information retrieval, evidence use, explanation of ideas and self-regulation.
4. Design a classroom-ready technology-enhanced reading comprehension lesson or learning task that integrates reading comprehension instruction, metacognitive development and Emerging 21st Century Competencies.
Course Content / Synopsis
This course includes the following content:
1. Technology-enhanced approaches to reading comprehension instruction that help students develop the ability to read, think and self-check.
2. Strategies for implementing Assessment as Learning in the classroom to promote students’ self-monitoring, feedback, revision and reflection.
3. The use of technology tools in designing questions, scaffolds, feedback and reflection activities to support students in retrieving information, using evidence, explaining ideas and self-regulating their learning.
4. The design of technology-enhanced reading comprehension lessons or learning tasks that integrate reading comprehension instruction, metacognitive development and Emerging 21st Century Competencies.
