Turning Stories into Board Games – Picture Book Board Game Design for Young Children
by 郑婉妮博士 Dr Cheng Wan-ni
Do you want to turn picture book stories into games that children love to play?
In this 4-hour course, “Picture Book Board Game Design and Practice”, you will not only quickly grasp methods of designing board games from picture books, but also take home a teaching game toolkit that includes:
- Quick examples of several common board game formats (matching, competition, cooperation, task adventure)
- Practical cards and sample templates that can be used directly in class
- Simple board game accessory–making techniques to help you get started easily
More importantly, you will discover the unique value of picture book board games in language learning:
- Encourage children to speak naturally during play, increasing their vocabulary
- Enhance expression and comprehension through role-play and interaction
- Cultivate communication and social skills through rules and cooperation
- Transform abstract language points into concrete game actions, making learning deeper
Through the process of “See examples → Learn methods → Hands-on creation → Play”, you will complete your own prototype of a picture book board game and learn how to apply it flexibly in kindergarten classrooms. Children will learn through play and fall in love with language through laughter!
