Social emotional skills include understanding, regulating, and expressing one’s own emotions as well as learn to understand others’ emotions and interact positively with others. Social emotional development helps young children’s school adjustment, peer interaction, and overall learning. As teachers and parents interact with young children most of the time, it is the responsibility of teachers and parents to support young children’s social emotional development. This course will explain the importance of social emotional development, provide teachers and parents with strategies to support children’s emotional understanding, expression, and regulation, and, at the same time, promote positive peer interaction.
