Introduction

The book is a practical guide to writing Chinese compositions specially written for Singapore students. It introduces 43 basic writing techniques grouped into five categories: (i) content organization, (ii) narration, (iii) characterization and description, (iv) rhetoric, and (v) expression. Revision exercises are provided at the end of the book to help students consolidate their learning. Every writing technique is furnished with examples, analyses and exercises. Some of the examples are taken from the latest school textbooks compiled by Curriculum Planning and Development Division, Ministry of Education, Singapore. Therefore, students can learn the writing skills from texts they are familiar with. Not only is the book suitable for secondary teachers and students, but it is also a good reference for teachers and students from upper primary schools and junior colleges.
