Objectives / Outcome of PD Activity
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
1. Understand the foundational concepts of translation, including its historical development and key theoretical frameworks.
2. Gain confidence in planning and delivering translation lessons for H2 students.
3. Engage in professional dialogue and consultation with experts and fellow teachers to clarify concepts and share teaching experiences.
4. Strengthen their ability to support student learning in a niche subject with limited curriculum time.
5. Consolidate and refresh prior knowledge (for experienced teachers) or build a strong teaching foundation (for new teachers).
Course Content / Synopsis
This course is designed for teachers who are currently teaching, or preparing to teach, the H2 Translation module at JC/CI. The course is constituted of two parts. In the asynchronous learning part, participants are required to preview nine micro-lesson units (downloaded from SCCL website) before attending the live session. These self-paced videos provide a grounding in core concepts. The live online session will feature expert sharing, interactive discussions, and Q&A based on the micro-lesson content.
Course Outline / Structure
Part 1: Introduction to the H2 Translation Micro-lesson Toolkit
- Overview of toolkit structure and purpose - Walkthrough of micro-lesson topics and how they support classroom teaching
- Suggestions for using the videos as a self-study or department-based resource
Part 2: Expert Talk – Implications of Translation Theory -Application of selected translation theories to teaching practices
- Balancing theory with classroom realities
Part 3: Q&A and Clarification Session
- Open discussion of questions arising from the micro-lessons
-Clarification of core concepts (e.g. translation strategies, grammar, pragmatics)
