This course consists of three parts. Part 1 offers a brief history of Chinese and Western porcelains. Part 2, which is the main part of the course, illustrates the meanings of the motifs and symbols commonly appeared on Chinese porcelains. Part 3 demonstrates some of the masterpieces of Chinese and Western porcelains respectively and tells the stories about them, offering students an opportunity to appreciate the beauty of porcelains from different cultures.
In daily social life, there are many rules and norms one should abide by. One’s social manners reflect his cultivation and quality. Good social manners and skills will create a good impression. This course introduces the basic Chinese social etiquettes, the do’s and don’ts in Chinese social occasions as well as appropriate social skills
This course is a basic introduction to the poetic aspect of Chinese culture and the essential features of Chinese poetry. Through illustrations of the presence of poetry in Chinese daily life, the course aims also to promote an understanding of Chinese culture.
This course is an introduction to frequently used Chinese idioms, proverbs and allegorical sayings. Their definition and origin will be explained so as to enable participants to use them in daily life. The course aims to enhance participants’ understanding and interest in Chinese culture.
This course introduces Chinese popular culture and network culture and explores the younger generation’s Chinese proficiency as well as their use of the Chinese language. In this course, popular culture covers popular songs and Chinese movies, while network culture covers such topics as network community and marketing shopping
This course introduces traditional Chinese festivals and related cuisine in a systematic manner. It aims to enhance participants’ appreciation of the significance of Chinese festivals in particular Chinese culture in general.
This course aims to enhance participants’ understanding of the historical, geographical and cultural characteristics of ten major cities, such as Beijing, Nanjing, Xian, Shanghai, and Guangzhou, that have a great influence on China’s ancient and modern developments. Participants will thus also have a better understanding of Chinese culture.
