Designed for secondary school Chinese teachers, the toolkit “A Guide to Process Writing for Secondary School Chinese Composition Writing: based on the SDL Model” is the product of a collaborative school-based research project by SCCL and Hua Yi Secondary School.
With “Self-directed Learning” and “Process Writing” as the core components of its theoretical framework, this toolkit combines in-class and out-of-class learning activities to help students establish their composition assessment standards and improve their writing skills. Under the teaching framework of this toolkit, teachers will be able to perform their roles as facilitators more effectively at the five stages of writing activities and assist students to master 43 writing techniques. Students will also be guided in a systematic way to plan and manage their learning processes.
The toolkit contains lesson plans, worksheets, PowerPoint presentations, rubrics, etc. In addition, several references and resources are appended in the toolkit, including information on theoretical concepts, research papers, examples of students’ work and teaching suggestions on composition writing activities.
This toolkit can be used in conjunction with A Handbook of Basic Writing Skills: With Examples from Singapore Chinese Textbooks (NTU-SCCL Press, 2016).
