Deep Teaching: The teaching practices and reflections of Singapore’s Chinese Master Teachers is a compilation of 15 academic research papers on the teaching of Chinese language and literature. It discusses theories and methods that facilitate the classroom teaching of Chinese as a second language. The book is divided into two sections, “Teaching Material and Assessment” and “Pedagogical Explorations”, and the latter explores oral, writing and other pedagogies. As a joint effort of Singapore Centre for Chinese Language (SCCL) and Chinese language Master Teachers from MOE, this book is a milestone in the field of Chinese language education and research. It is a summary of the Master Teachers' reflections and experiences accumulated in practice. By sharing their experiences in teaching based on SCCL’s principle of “Research-Verify-Teach” and researches in latest teaching theories and pedagogies, the Editor and authors hope that the book will intensify communications among fellow educators, improve their professional abilities and help to promote the development of the teaching and learning of Chinese.
