Teaching Chinese as a Second/Foreign Language — Exploration and Practice is a compilation of selected articles from the 2nd international conference on Teaching and Learning of Chinese as a Second Language held by SCCL. The articles are written by Chinese language researchers and educators from Japan, Malaysia, Vietnam, Singapore, Mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. The book is divided into two sections. The first section is the “Asian Selections”, which comprises of 12 papers discussing on the topics of Chinese language education under various social contexts, including pedagogy, multimedia/computer-assisted language learning, assessment, teaching material development, teacher training and professional development, researches on the current state of Chinese language education, the comparison of cross-cultural communicative strategies and so on. The second section is the “Singaporean Selections”, which is a specialized collection of 8 papers that look into Chinese language education at preschools as well as primary and secondary schools in Singapore, and illustrate multiple teaching models and concepts. The book is an inspiring reference for the educators of teaching Chinese as a second/foreign language.
