There are always feedbacks from the teachers that the most difficult people to deal with are not the children, but the parents. Why is this so? Do you ever feel that why is it so hard for you to communicate with some of the parents, while other teachers can easily deal with the latter even if both of you are conveying the same messages?

What kinds of communication skills are needed and how do we listen in order to gain the trust of the parents? What are the alternative platforms for teachers and parents to communicate with each other? SCCL invites two experienced lecturers - Dr Wu Yung-Sen and Dr Cheng Wan-Ni to conduct this course in a humorous and relaxed manner. They will be teaching participants a variety of techniques of building relationships with parents, placing equal emphasis on both theory and practice. Teacher-parent relationships can be established in the following forms: communication through mobile applications, family visit, parent-teacher conference, family contact book, line communication, classroom observation day, parenting seminars, parenting counselling, parent-child carnivals, meet-the-parents sessions, etc. This course provides sharing of real-life examples, role-playing sessions and other activities.

Through this course, participants will learn:

  • The theoretical basis of home-school partnership in early childhood education
  • The six types of parent's involvement:

Necessary knowledge and skills of parents, the communication between family and school, school and community volunteer services, support for home-based learning, participation in decision-making and promotion, and the collaboration with community.

  • The specific ways of building teacher-parent relationships:
Communication through mobile applications, family visit, class parent conference, family contact book, line communication, parent classroom observation day, parenting seminars, parenting counselling, parent-child carnivals, and meet-the-parents sessions.
